When Arun mentioned the term blogging to me, little could i make out of what it is. But later on as he introduced me to this whole new way of expressing your thoughts and ideas, the more exciting and interested it seemed to me. I always wanted to say a thing or two bout whats happening around but maybe no-one would listen or a much needed plaform was not there. And blogging opened a whole new world for me where i could say what i wanted to say and express my views about any thing and everything.
Pen being mightier than the sword gave me the sense of being powerful. Now i am hooked up to blogging and am a avid blogger. One night, during the discussions about blogging, Forum4CA was born.
Its not only me and Arun who are doing it. Mr Dennis Howlett is running a blogg for professional accountant in UK. Boeing commercial airplanes Vice President Randy Baseler is doing it. So are Sun Microsystems President Jonathan Schwartz, General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz and Edelman Chief Executive Richard Edelman.
They are just a few of the top executives across the globe who are being bitten by the blogging bug. And they are not the only one. Even small companies such as Seattle-based Clip-n-Seal, maker of an innovative bag-sealing device, have won international media attention for the way they use a weblog to tell their stories. These blogs are used as a personal journals that discuss subjects ranging from new products to economic trends besides facilating knowledge sharing and marketing too.A blog is not a substitute for advertising or e-mail communications, but according to me it helps in enunciating a one to one conversation with the customers or the users.
Web-blogs are more and more being used by companies for surrogate advertising, or to check the market trend or to creat a brand image and hence becomming a mainstream technology. But there’s lot at stake when an individual or business begins blogging to the outside world. But as more companies experiment with blogging, issues quickly arise about what information is meant for mass consumption and what should stay behind closed doors. Bloggers at Microsoft, Google and Wells Fargo have lost their jobs in recent years for disclosing too much.
Some organizations have a culture that allows for blogging to take place with minimal disruption, and blogging can actually enhance their conversations with the outside world. While not all businesses fall into this category, they all must deal with weblogs, even if they don’t have corporate blogs of their own.
The things that needs to be considered to set up a web-blog are :-
1. The company should know what’s being said about it on its blog or on other people’s weblogs. If there’s negative buzz, you want to be able to pick up on the discussions early and get ahead of the issue.
2. You need to be little slow while creating a official blog. You need to establish guidelines for setting up the blog. For example, bloggers must be careful about the language they use, since what they say can have ramifications down the road. Establishing policies for company bloggers and then knowing who is saying what are critical steps.
3.You to need to set up regulations for what cannot be said for legal reasons as we all live in a litigous society and words once said might come back to haunt us. For example, in many industries, employees may not know that there are regulatory issues that mean certain things can’t be spoken about casually. Of course, this isn’t a new problem that has just arisen with the dawn of blogging; many companies forbid employees to speak with journalists or the media about the company unless they have had media training or public relations folks are present. There’s a reason for that, and it’s important for every business to extend its policies to include guidelines on what can and can’t be said in personal weblogs.
