Dear All,
I would like to share this Economic Times article on the forum. It’s interesting
MANY Americans who lifted their glasses during President George W Bush’s State of the Union address on Tuesday night were not toasting their leader — they were playing a popular drinking game.
The game is the alternative for those who find politics too dry. It requires participants to take a drink when Bush says certain words or phrases in his annual address to Congress. The speech is carried live by all major television networks and is traditionally the most-watched presidential address of the year. But in homes and college dorms across the country, Americans will use the occasion to get drunk on politics.
Among the rules listed at the website drinkinggame.us are to take a drink, meaning either “a good gulp of beer†or a shot of liquor, every time Bush says “Iraqâ€, “Saddam†or “freedomâ€.
  Â
Other rules are more creative, such as the one asking participants to take a shot of tequila every time Bush mentions “border security†or “illegal immigrationâ€, expected to be a major theme in the speech.
Another rule stipulates that players “drink while looking over the shoulder of the person next to them†every time Bush defends his National Security Agency surveillance programme. There are many different versions of the game, such as one that calls on participants to finish their drink every time Bush, who at times is battling with the English language, “makes an error of pronunciation or grammarâ€. —DPA
