In a landmark judgement the Honourable Sumpreme Court imposed one year imprisonment and Rs 50,000 fine on Zahira, the witness of the “Best Bakery Case”. She has been held guilty for contempt of court for lying under oath. A bench comprising of Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice H K Seema finally ended the so called ‘nautanki’ of hers. (it indeed is a nautanki and couldnt help using this word)
Anyone who has followed this case shall agree with me that she has made the mockery of law and court. She has constantly been switching side for past three years and baffled one and all..( kanoon ka mazaak bana diya..). She initially supported prosecution and the blamed social activist Teesta Setlavad for inducing her to give statements against the accused. You should note that Teesta Setlavad is the one who was fighting agaisnt the acquital of the 21 accused in post-Godhra riot case.
Not only Zahira but her mother and brother too retracted their statements in the court in year 2003. Then suddenly disappears only to emerge after about an year to retract her earlier statements. Finaly i think the supreme court must have thought that it has had enough from her and not only convicted her but ordered to attach her bank accounts. SC also ordered to probe her income and sustainability since year 2002.
This is a welcome decision by the Supreme Court and i am sure it would definitly pass some message to others witnesses who turned hostile. When we are talking about giving protection to the witnesses we should also pass on a message by punishing them if they try to keep the law at bay by lieing again and again. What does the ‘People of India’ has to say about it ???

This indeed is a welcome decision. Following the decision the witness of Jessica Lal murder case might also get punished..
The growth of the contry depends on how strict the Law of Land is and how well they are implemented.
Waiting for someone from Jessica Case to get same treatment
