Hello folks,
Lately i’ve been getting a lotta calls on how to answer various kind of questions in an interview………So i thought i might as well write it down in a series of tips.
1. Should you attend an interview even if the profile does’nt sound the best? I’d suggest go for it. I personally don’t miss a chance to attend one. The kind of learning you can have there is amazing. Different ways of learniing how people can insult you and how to give it back to them.
2. You have a lot of experience in XYZ field, why do you want to move to PQR field? Say that you’ve spent 3 years of key learning in XYZ field, you want to now concentrate on developing ur overall skills, ability to handle newer areas of work and do something even more challenging than what you are doing presently. Your prior years learning has contributed immensely towards what you are, in making you a well rounded, experienced individual.
3. Why do you think we should hire you? Say I am a proven performer which has always reflected in your evaluations with your previous organisation. I will take some time to adjust to your organisation and my performance will speak for itself. I am a dedicated worker and am adept at multitasking as well as mentoring my juniors into becoming better professionals.
4. What do you know about ABC clause in the XYZ Accounting Standard? Assuming you don’t know the answer, tell him that your association with the standard has been limited to this clause only, if u can summarise the standard in your own words and conclude by saying that….ICAI has posted the standards on the site for our reference. Almost all organisations have the standards easily accessible. Whenever i need to understand something specific, which i have not worked upon earlier, i open the standard and apply my analytical skillsets to interpret the standard and give valuable inputs.
5. He gives you a practical situation, and ask you how you will handle it!!!! Do not panic, there are no defined answers for such kinda questions, apply you r mind, logically think through it and then give the answer.
6. What has been the most challenging assignment, tell me about the unusual parts and how you handled it? This is where he will test whether you;re a dummy case or a regular articelship guy……….YOu could give him a technical situation,
And if you really don’t have an instance to share, tell him a challenging personal situation (Not a love story, please!!!!) and how you handled it and earned tthe respect of others.
7. Your salary expections? Tricky one, don’t hesitate to quote what you actually deserve!!! But when you get a job that’ll do wonders to your CV or one which gives you that desire to actualyy do and gain learning from the work…..Do it.
8. Are you mobile, willing to relocate?… NEVER SAY NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its extremely important, the moment you say you’re not he’ll show you the door……You can always manage mobility once your’e inside the organisation.
General advice: Always be aware of the latest developments– Pronouncements, EAC opinions, exposure drafts….You won’t be expected to have detailed knowledge but you should atleast know there is something new……
Crossing, Uncrossing yur legs does’nt make an iota of a differnce, sit comfortably, don’t stare at people and for you Pranav, if the recepitonist is sexy keep your mouth and eyes shut!!!!!
Take care…..I just hope i manage my next interview right!!!!!!!
