Generally i have seen many laborious and hardworking people who put in their more than 100% in their work or studies yet sucess eludes them. There is nothing wrong in putting all their might in the work but then what i woudl suggest is that they should also put due consideration in their way of doing the work/acts. The way you work always determines the level of success you shall achieve.
In todays corporate world we often get to hear that one should be a smart worker rather than being a hard worker. Ypu should know what work to do at a given particular time. Further, the work that you do should be object/result oriented. Simply going on doing one particular task cannot get you there. For eg, to make a tunnel in a huge mountain, you need to dig and go on digging and digging till you reach the other end. But yet, you should be aware of the directions, where to dig, where to start digging and how to dig.
The same applies to some one preparing for Chartered Accountantcy Examinations. OFten, we would come across many hardworking students. They would devote in a lot of time and energy in their preparations and yet are not able to get through the exams. The reason attributable to this poor fate is lack of proper method of studying. It is often seen that students do not plan their studies properly. We should understant our intentions first. The foremost intentions should be to clear the exam and all our efforts should be directed towards it. We should not give much considerations to the subjects/issues/topics which are not important from the examination point of view.
Ever heard the story of the giant ship engine that failed? The ship’s owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure out how to fix the engine. Then they brought in an old man who had been fixing ships since he was a youngster. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he immediately went to work.
He inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom. Two of the ship’s owners were there, watching this man, hoping he would know what to do. After looking things over, the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed! A week later, the owners received a bill from the old man for ten thousand dollars. “What?!” the owners exclaimed. “He hardly did anything!”
So they wrote the old man a note saying, “Please send us an itemized bill.”
The man sent a bill that read:
Tapping with a hammer. $ 2.00
Knowing where to tap ………… ……… ……. $9998.00
The message is clear!
Effort is important, but knowing where to make an effort in your life makes all the difference. If you know where to tap, then success cannot elude you. Its always about tapping at the right place.
