Over last few weeks we have been reading and hearing about the demolitions of illegal and unauthorised construction by Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The stories about the demolitions have been making the headlines too in the past few weeks though the news have shifted from front page to third and fourth pages. There have been reports that MCD is doing selective demolitions and have not been entirely sucessful in cleaning the city. But lets give these fellas the credit –after all it woul make the city clean.
This drive which was started after the directions of Hon’ High Court has seen oppositons from most of the Ministers, Politicians Government officials, Panchayats of the so called ‘LAL-DORA’ areas and the villages falling in the City and who not. But it should be noted that all those who are making a large hue-n-cry about it are only the people who are impacted by it or who have voilated the rules and regulations. Be it the people who have done such unauthorized construction or the people who are indirect benefactors of such un-authorised construction. The politicians are favouring it as few of them themselves have constructed such illegal construction or are doing so in the greed of the massive vote bank. The issue has ignited such a fire that now political dishes shall be cooked in this fire.
But at the same time resident welfare associations have come across to support this movement and why not. After all this would make the city clean and worth living. At present, most of the electricity is used by these commercial establishments in the residential colonies and hence eating the large share of the residents. The same is the case with water. Further, trafic problems and noise pollution shall also reduce to a large extend if the commercial establishments are closed and demolished from the residential areas.
I think we all should come forward, raise our hands and support this movement.

I completely agree with the author that we all should come forward, raise our hands and support this movement. But as it is said that charity begins at home, we all must see whether we have been following the guidelines laid by the MCD ourselves. Unless and until we are going to resolve the issue from our homes nothing concrete would be obtained.
As far as opposition from the politicians is concerned then theirs is a case in which three fingers point towards them when they raise a finger on someone.
It is surely a topic of concern as the commercial establishments are using the resources, which are meant for residential usage. Simultaneously, it causes a lot of traffic hazards; noise pollution etc., What is required is an extensive effort to combat the encroachment problem and commercial use of residential areas but the same should take place at a time when encroachments begins.
A lot of deliberation is required…there actually should be a drive similar to the present one at the time when the encroachments start taking place to avoid any kind of inconvenience to the people as we as to the MCD…MG-1 Mall is the latest example of this today and tomorrow MG-2 would take its place…the whole thing once again boils down to only one thing and that is CORRUPTION. Corruption is there when the encroachments are allowed and corruption is again there when there is demolition.
Encroachments are not initially avoided…but once a place has been established and then demolishing an established is very painful for the occupants…what exactly is required is that encroachments should not at all be allowed to take place at the first instance!!!…
