The climax scene of much controversial novel by Khuswant Singh, “ Train to Pakistan” came to real picture on Sunday night. Something that is dreadful to read was going on live on Samjhauta Express. I cannot even imagine how painful it must be have been for those who boarded on the train on the terror night, February 18, 2007!

The main idea behind this attack, just before the visit of foreign Minister of Pakistan to India, is to disrupt peace talks between the two nations. This incident is going to widen the differences between the two nations as it gives an opportunity to put blame on each other for the attack. We are busy counting the heads of those who lost their lives on the basis of caste.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the colour of their bloods? It is a shame for both the nation that in real times of urgency we are blaming each other and more concerned about the caste of 67 odd people who fell prey to the attack.

I was taken aback by a report on news channel saying that Pakistan is pointing fingers on India. This is something ridiculous from our counterpart. We had been initiating peace process since time immemorial but every time it comes to an end by the grace of terrorist attack. The attacks on Mumbai local trains just before the Foreign Secretaries meeting are witness to this fact.

I feel very distressed in writing that evidences have proven that these terrorist groups are stationed in Pakistan. In fact Pakistan has no answers to evidences produced by India regarding terrorist groups operating from its land. The numerous suicidal attacks in Karachi last year and attempts made on the life of General Musharraf’s substantiate the fact that these terrorist groups are not only stationed in Pak but are flourishing also. The irony of the whole thing is that Pakistan remains unaware of the fact that Pak itself is falling victim to these terrorist groups, which is further confirmed through Karachi attacks.

Let me put this question to Mr. Musharaf, which speaks the mind of millions of peoples of both the nation. Mr. General when are you planning to throw the merciless, blood sucking animal (so called as “terrorist”) from your land? As usual General has no answer to my question. I know my question is never going to reach Mr. General in technical sense but it was already conveyed by Mr. Bush an year back when he framed this question in a more diplomatic way – “So, Mr. General when are you going to have next elections?”

There are so many unanswered questions that come to my mind and confuse me. If Pak is so hell bent not to let the peace process go on, why is our country so aggressive to make the two ends meet? Every time it is India, which comes forward to shake hands, be it Agra summit or Lahore Bus. The return gifts for these peace talks are – Kargil, Parliament attacks, Mumbai bomb blast, Samjhauta bomb blast….. God knows what else is waiting. Can’t we maintain Status Quo on this and let our friend make the effort if they are so willing to close this issue? I don’t remember an occasion when Pak came forward for peace talks. I know this is something too harsh but when our consistent attempts of peace talks are answered by terrorist attacks should we not take a step backward? I am very sure that myself is speaking the minds of common mass of my country, which is just fed up of death taking attacks. We can’t reach a consensus unless there is an equal urge from Pakistan to end the terror. It is better not to invest in a company that is not willing to share its profit with investors. At this point we have more serious issues (prospering economy) to deal with and we can’t afford to land up in controversy that will take us nowhere.

In spite of all unwillingness to do so we got to agree on continuity of Samjhauta Express because it connects the two nation, a good volume of whose population cross the border every year to meet their relatives or to visit places of pilgrimages. It serves as a link between the two nations and is the only means of commutation for poor people who cant afford to take the flight. The best way to honour the victims of Samjhauta Express blast is to put an end to this terrorism.

It brings tear to my eyes to see that even after 60 years of independence we are in the shackles of terrorism. This is a parting gift that was passed on to our country at the time of partition. The sad thing about India – Pak story is that we can’t tighten our stand on Pakistan as we are the preachers of non – violence. We are suffering because of a sin that was never committed by us. How fair is that? It is my earnest request to Political mullahs – Please don’t make it a political stunt to gather votes. We don’t want another Kargil, Mumbai blast, Karachi blast, or Samjhauta Express blast. I hope people on both side of the fence want an end to it.

The question that might be troubling everybody is what is the motive behind disrupting peace talks? What actually is required at the end of the day? How long we are going to bear the brunt of terrorism? Do we really need Samjhauta Express to continue after this gruesome event, which took the life of 67 innocent unique creature of Almighty (no matter what religion they belong to)? At the end of the day all these question remains unanswered.

The crux of the entire thing is that there is no point in bad mouthing each other and it is in the best interest for the entire world that we join hands together to put an end to terrorism.
