The ‘state of West Bengal’ is in a ‘state of despair’. It started with Tata Motors Plant in Singur and now has traveled to Nandigram putting a full stop to any kind of land acquisition in West Bengal. All dreams for making West Bengal a chemical hub comes to halt. I don’t see any reasons for the Opposition party raising so many hues and cries over SEZ issue and Tata motors 1 lakh car plant set up in Singur. Mr. Buddhhadeb Bhattacharya is trying hard to rope in new industries in West Bengal where as the opposition party does not want the rally to continue.
A year back Mr. Narayan Murthy came to Kolkata to set up a BPO of Infosys and same day West Bengal went for a strike. The end result was that he gave up all his plans to start a BPO in Kolkata and returned empty handed. This is a very usual feature in West Bengal and regular strikes are eating up the Industrial growth.
How many blue chip companies have their corporate offices in so called metropolitan city? We can count them on fingers. I can recall only one at the moment and that is ITC. Not only this, companies are shifting their corporate offices from Kolkata to Mumbai (Shalimar Paints). The shifting is done basically to have an ease in operations as Mumbai is the financial Capital of the country. Kolkata is one among the four metropolitan cities but does it really enjoy the pleasure of being one?
Certainly not!
While other metropolitan are flying high, Kolkata is still moving like a snail. In spite of the fact that the cost of Living in the city of Joy is very low, all professional are moving away from city because of slow growth and opportunities. The radar is moving so slow that Kolkata lies behind cities like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Vadodra, Chandigarh, Ahemdabad, Surat in many aspects.
The political parties should take pride in the fact that Mr. TATA has chosen West Bengal to set up his 1 lakh car plant. The intensity of agitation faced by TATA leaves a very demoralizing effect on all other industry players who have plans of set up in West Bengal. As media reports say there is a clear sign of unwillingness from IT industry to speed up their set up in West Bengal after Singur and Nandigram event. But Mr. Tata is very determined not to move from Singur as he cracked a fantastic deal (90 years lease agreement for land) with West Bengal government.
The Opposition party which is against any kind of industrialization is the main reason for slow growth of West Bengal. It is playing with the emotions of poor people and passing a wrong message to them by showing fake concerns to push up their vote banks. Can someone come up to make them understand that industry set up is going to help the people in the long run by providing employment and better infrastructure? I had been in Kolkata for seven years and the sense of belongingness which is still there make me feel very sad that the professional of Kolkata are deprived to have the taste of diversified industry. The best tribute to the victims of Nandigram is to keep the juggernaut of industrialization rolling.

Ruthless killing of innocent farmers, incuding ladies and children by police and police-uniformed CPM goons do ensure any industrial growth in West Bengal?!Still scores of bodies are missing!Do focefull acquisition of land, the livelyhood of poor farmers transform a state from farm base to industry? What is the nature of chemical hub?Which chemicals will be produced?Whether the chemicals already discarded by developed countries for the sake of pollution are to be produced here??We have already such one in Haldia, adjacent to Nandigram,The Mitsubishi Chemicals, first discarded by South Afica!……For the sake of humanity denounce state brutality and for the sake of our next generation keep a pollution free India as far as possible. Thanks.
