The capital of biggest democracy in the world has come out with an admission policy that is a nightmare for all the parents who want to provide best education to their child. If you are a Delhite and had not been to a convent school please give all thoughts of providing the best to your child, though you may have all riches in life.

Few questions tht i would like to ask everyone is that….How is parent’s educational qualification related to child’s education? Even if the parents are not very well educated, aren’t they supposed to try and impart the best of education to their children?? My Grandfather could not study much due to diffcult circumstances but he made sure that my father gets a good education and similarly my father made sure that we, his children get the best of education and study even more than him.

How is the proximity of child’s residence related to his admission? If a child can manage long distance to commute from residence to school, i guess the school should not have a problem with this!!

When applying for admission of your second child in the same school in which you studied and in which your first child is studying, the chances of getting the task done are 30% better. This reminds me of the phrase – “Rich is getting richer and poor is getting poorer”. The only difference is that the richness referred to here is in terms of literacy. In other words if you are not educated the chances are very rare that you may succeed in getting your child admitted in the best schools of Delhi.

“I haven’t slept properly for the last one week because of tension and once the results were out, five schools had rejected my child for no apparent reason – even the school where my husband is an alumni did not take my child.” – This is what a kid’s mamma has to say on the new policy

The main crux of Ganguly Committee Recommendations is as under:

A child could gain up to 20 points if he resides within 3 km of the school.
If child resides beyond 10 km he or she would not qualify for any points.
20 points if the child’s sibling studies in the same school.
10 points if parents are alumni of the school.
20 points for the educational qualification of parents.
20 points at the discretion of the school management.
5 points for children with special needs
5 points for a girl child.

Only 10% weight age in the above process is given to bridge the gap between the rich-poor and male-female literacy ratio. If we come up with such irrational and conservative policies, the gap between rich and poor will become wider and wider. At least there should be no differentiation on the basis of educational qualification of kid’s parent so that the spread of literacy reaches the poor and illiterate masses too. The only good thing about Ganguly committee is that it has done away with the interviews and has given recognition to girl child but that too a mere 5% weight age.

So, this is wake up call for the young Indians to raise their hue and cry or one day they may fall prey to a more conservative policy than this one…………………..
