Self-dependency is the key word these days. Every one wants to be self-dependent. A secure future is something that appeals to everyone. Nobody wants a factor of uncertainty in their future. This is evident from the booming up of vocational courses. Maximum numbers of students opt for a course that has bright future prospects. The number of students appearing for medical, engineering, civil services, and MBA entrance examinations is a clear example to prove this.
But is this what they actually dreamt of?
We all know the answer i.e. no. A child has a heart of clay. People leave their imprints on it. A child is very easily influenced. He wants to be someone like Amitabh, Tendulkar, Kalpana Chawla, M.F. Hussain, Sonu Nigam, and Vishwanathan Anand. He has many whims. However as he grows, he is thrust upon with the idea that he should be an intellect who is able to stand aloof. Everyone wants him to be a doctor, engineer, teacher or someone similar whose life is considered very secure. Parents, teachers, relatives everyone wants him to excel in academics. Slowly and gradually, he leaves his flight of fantasies and steps into the world aspiring to be an academic person.
His talent is killed by world in three different stages. Firstly, by his parents who overlook his abilities. Secondly, by his teachers who fail to recognize his potential and are unable to encourage it. Finally by the child himself who underestimates his talent.
If this continues then this world will turn into a bunch of nerds competing for the same thing. Everyone wants their kids to have a settled future. Creativity and talents are always given a back seat. It is the hard work and the results that are always prioritized. Because of this very reason, most of the people are found struggling for the same thing. Due to this competition have soared heights. Only few thrive that competition. All the others slide into a gloomy shell where depression takes a toll on many lives.
Feeling dejected many turn into criminals, thieves etc. Corruption has increased highly. People have maligned the pure field of academics. They play with the future of many children. This all is a result of many people migrating to one field. In such case, survival of the fittest is only possible. A balance needs to be strike. A world full of doctors, engineers, and teachers is otiose. We need painters, musicians, dancers and everyone else.
If this overlooking of talent continues, then we might lose some of the brilliant stars whose creativity could have bestowed them to great heights. What if M.F. Hussein, Amitabh, Tendulkar would have thought the same? We cannot imagine art without Hussein, Indian cinema without Amitabh, and cricket without Sachin. They are the pride of our nation. They have attained such a position because they chose to be different and followed the path of their dreams.
People need to understand that not every child can be a doctor or an engineer. Each child has a different aptitude. Someone might be a below average student in class but could be gifted with a melodious voice. One needs to identify his talent and needs to polish it to achieve success.
If something does not interest a child, then it is futile pushing him in that direction. He might work but his efficiency will never be 100% because it does not interest him. He cannot be passionate about that work of his. The parents should, instead, encourage the child to enhance is creativity and to develop his talent so that he can give his beat to that particular field.
Someone rightly said-
“One machine can do the work of 50 ordinary machines. But no machine can do the work of one extraordinary man.â€
Co-curricular activities play an indispensable role. They help the person recognize his hidden potential. People are born with talents but most of them fail to identify the worth of it. One needs to refine his talents to be an achiever in his life. Every field is promising provided the person has talent.
Be it singing, dancing, painting or anything else, there is a bright future everywhere.
Someone made a true statement-
“Everyone has a talent. What is rare is the courage to nurture it in solitude and to follow the talent to the dark places where it leads.â€
